PFB Marine Topcoat Advanced Finish
High Gloss · 1 Gallon
Acrylic solvent topcoat formulated for professional-grade results. High solids content means better coverage per coat and superior resistance to chalking and fading.
PFB Marine Topcoat Advanced Finish is a high-performance acrylic solvent topcoat formulated for professionals and experienced DIYers who want results that rival a boatyard spray job. Its high solids content delivers better coverage per coat, builds to a thick protective film, and resists chalking and fading far longer than standard marine paints. Designed for fiberglass and aluminum hulls, this is the coating of choice for boats that need to look their best in demanding conditions. It levels beautifully and can be brushed, rolled, or sprayed for a factory-quality finish.
Surface Preparation
Sand with 220-320 grit for a smooth base profile
Use a marine prep solvent to remove all contaminants, wax, and silicone residue
Aluminum surfaces must be etched or primed with PFB Marine Metal Primer
Fiberglass gelcoat in good condition can be painted directly after sanding
Fill imperfections with marine fairing compound and re-sand before topcoat

Is Topcoat Advanced better than Pro Marine Enamel?
They serve different purposes. Topcoat Advanced is an acrylic solvent system with superior leveling and chalking resistance — ideal for spray application on fiberglass. Pro Marine Enamel is a polyurethane with higher gloss and chemical resistance — better for wood and metal. Both are professional-grade.
Can I brush Topcoat Advanced or does it need to be sprayed?
You can brush or roll it with excellent results. Use a foam roller and tip with a badger brush for the smoothest finish. Spray application gives the best results on large hull surfaces.
Does Topcoat Advanced work on aluminum pontoon boats?
Yes, it is an excellent choice for aluminum boats. Prime with PFB Marine Metal Primer first to ensure adhesion and corrosion protection on bare aluminum.
How does it compare to Awlgrip or Alexseal?
PFB Topcoat Advanced delivers professional-grade results comparable to premium brands at a fraction of the cost. The high solids formula provides similar film build and durability without the premium markup.
