PFB Pro Marine Enamel is our flagship polyurethane marine topcoat, engineered for boat owners and professionals who demand a show-quality finish with industrial-grade durability. Unlike consumer-grade marine paints that chalk and fade within a season, this coating uses high-solids polyurethane resin that resists UV degradation, saltwater immersion, and chemical exposure for years. It delivers a deep, wet-look gloss on fiberglass, wood, and metal hulls. Ideal for topsides, cabin tops, and any above-waterline surface that needs to look good and stay protected. This is the same coating formula used by commercial shipyards on working vessels — now available per gallon to DIY boat owners and contractors.

Surface Preparation

  • Sand existing paint with 220-grit sandpaper to create a mechanical bond
  • Remove all dust, grease, and contaminants with a marine wax and grease remover
  • Bare fiberglass or wood must be primed with PFB Surface Primer first
  • Bare metal surfaces require PFB Marine Metal Primer before topcoat
  • Fill any gouges or imperfections with marine-grade fairing compound before priming

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I apply PFB Pro Marine Enamel below the waterline?
Pro Marine Enamel is designed for topside (above waterline) use. For below-waterline hull protection, a dedicated antifouling or bottom paint is recommended. Pro Marine Enamel can be used on boat interiors, cabin tops, and deck surfaces.
Do I need to prime before applying Pro Marine Enamel?
If you are painting over existing marine paint in good condition, sanding with 220-grit is sufficient. Bare surfaces — fiberglass, wood, or metal — must be primed first with PFB Surface Primer or PFB Marine Metal Primer.
Can I spray PFB Pro Marine Enamel?
Yes. Thin with PFB Professional Reducer at 10-15% by volume for HVLP spray application. Use a 1.3-1.5mm tip. Spray in thin, even passes to avoid runs.
How long does the finish last?
With proper surface preparation and two coats, expect 3-5 years of gloss retention in typical marine environments. UV exposure, saltwater, and maintenance practices all affect longevity.
What is the difference between Pro Marine Enamel and Marine Enamel Standard?
Pro Marine Enamel uses a polyurethane resin system that delivers higher gloss, better UV resistance, and longer durability. Standard Gloss is an alkyd enamel — a good value for seasonal painting but with shorter lifespan and less chemical resistance.
